SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN DEMAND FOR SHOE CARE PRODUCTS

18 November 2009

“There are very few silver linings to emerge from the current economic downturn but there are sectors of the trade where retailers can benefit from this harsh climate – none more so than the shoe care market” says Dave Watkins, Sales Director at Cherry Blossom. “All our data suggests that consumers are now looking to extend the life of their footwear rather than treating it as a disposable fashion item”, says Watkins.
“Only a few months into the economic downturn shoe repairer Timpson reported, in the Manchester Evening News, a 7% increase in sales in their outlets as the general public look to preserve their footwear by affecting modestly priced repairs rather than a much larger capital outlay required when purchasing new pairs of shoes”, continues Watkins.

“Maintaining the looks, comfort and performance of this footwear requires the application of the appropriate shoe care products and at Cherry Blossom we have increased our production capabilities to meet the double digit growth in demand. Once consumers can see just how effective these are they will continue to use them even when we come out of the economic doldrums”.

“Shoe retailers and shoe repair outlets can take advantage of the current situation by making sure that the Cherry Blossom shoe care range is prominently merchandised in store.

“As the original, and now the only, British manufacturer of shoe care products, we can supply customers with order quantities to suit their requirements at short notice – and we are confident that if retail outlets give these products the prominence they deserve they will provide a valuable income stream in these difficult economic times” concludes Watkins.
